Giants Bench Daniel Jones, Tommy DeVito Named New Starting Quarterback

The New York Giants have made a major move at the quarterback position, benching Daniel Jones and naming Tommy DeVito as the new starter. The decision was made after Jones struggled mightily in the Giants' 27-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Jones' Poor Performance Leads to Benching

Jones has had a disappointing season in 2023, completing just 59.1% of his passes for 1,624 yards with 8 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His passer rating of 76.6 ranks 27th in the NFL, and he has been sacked 25 times.

"Daniel has worked hard and given us everything he has, but we need to make a change at quarterback to give us the best chance to win," Giants head coach Brian Daboll said. "We believe that Tommy DeVito gives us that chance."

DeVito Excited for Opportunity

DeVito, a fourth-round pick by the Giants in the 2022 NFL Draft, has appeared in four games this season, completing 12 of 17 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. He has also rushed for 24 yards on four carries.

"I'm grateful for this opportunity and I'm going to make the most of it," DeVito said. "I know I have a lot to prove, but I'm confident in my abilities and I'll do everything I can to help this team win."

Giants Hope for Improvement

The Giants are currently 2-11 this season and have lost six consecutive games. They are in last place in the NFC East and have a slim chance of making the playoffs.

"We know that we have a lot of work to do, but we believe that Tommy DeVito can help us turn things around," Daboll said. "We're going to rally around him and give him all the support he needs to succeed."
